The story
The malta stool is a compact seating and side table hybrid by Studioutte, designed for the SOFT SOLID collection in Milan.
The form is built around intersecting rectangular blocks that create a Greek cross silhouette at the base, rising to a thick square top. A continuous shadow gap is carved into the vertical elements, the only ornamental gesture on an otherwise severe object. The proportions are dense, architectural, closer in spirit to a small building than to conventional furniture.
For the SOFT SOLID Monde Singulier edition, malta is finished in a full pewter coating. The metallic surface reads differently across light conditions, shifting from warm grey to cool silver, and gives an object rooted in vernacular Italian design an almost mineral weight. The original wooden construction, now encased in pewter, references a 19th-century Italian vocabulary of hybrid forms that straddle utility and sculpture.

About Studioutte
Established in 2020, studioutte is a Milan-based multidisciplinary practice for architecture, interiors and collectible design. The name draws from the German *hütte*, meaning hut or shelter, a word that carries the spirit of the studio's approach.
Guglielmo Giagnotti and Patrizio Gola founded studioutte around a shared philosophy of warm minimalism: a pursuit of purity through vernacular forms, primitive essence, and poetic restraint. Furniture is conceived as small architectural objects. Their pieces are made from solid wood, raw metal, and occasional polyester lacquer, materials valued for the patina and imperfections that develop with time and use. Production is entirely handcrafted in collaboration with Italian artisans in Padova, Milan, and the wider Lombard region.
Delivery
Every piece is packed and shipped under insurance, from the workshop to you. White glove delivery (unpacking, installation, packaging removal) is available on request. Delivery is not charged at checkout: we send you a quote within 24 business hours of your order. You have 5 days to accept and pay it (secure payment link or bank transfer), otherwise your order is cancelled and fully refunded.
