002 Malta Stool Burl Wood

The malta stool functions as both seating and side table, a classification the form itself leaves open. Part of the SOFT SOLID collection by studioutte, its body is built from simple intersecting lines that produce a Greek cross in section, a shape with roots in Italian vernacular cabinetry of the 19th century. A continuous shadow gap is carved along the vertical elements, animating the form with a thin line of shadow that deepens as light rakes across it. The proportions are strict, the geometry unrelenting, yet the piece never feels cold.

This version is presented in blonde burl wood with a glossy finish, developed exclusively for Monde Singulier. The material's natural figuring, where grain swirls and color shifts across each face, plays against the rigid cross-section. studioutte works with craftsmen in Padova for wood production, and the finish here reflects that collaborative precision.
