The Paulín coffee table by OHLA Studio is a low, rectangular table in cast aluminium, from the Alcocer collection (2022).
Its form is monolithic: a solid slab top carried on thick, integrated U-shaped legs with subtly rounded edges. The visual weight is deliberate. Against stone or concrete, the piece disappears into the ground plane; against wood or pale fabric, it holds its own as a volume. The matte, textured surface catches light unevenly, shifting in appearance as the day moves.
The Paulín began as an original painting. Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull translated that work into aluminium through traditional casting, executed by artisan workshops in San Miguel de Allende. The process carried the surface irregularities of the painted source into the metal, making each piece a distinct record of its making.
Alongside the Antica lighting series in the Alcocer collection, the Paulín defines OHLA Studio's approach to furniture: the material is primary, the craft is traceable, and the object resists easy categorisation.

About
Ohla Studio
OHLA Studio is a multidisciplinary design studio founded in 2017 by Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull, based in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The Italian-American duo works across art direction, interior design, and landscape design, with a practice rooted in close collaboration with local artisans and centuries-old craft traditions.
Their work is guided by a single conviction: "We manifest age-old visions with contemporary possibilities." Each piece begins as a metaphor, a formal idea resolved through traditional techniques including stone carving, goldsmithing, and metal casting, with references ranging from Fabergé jewelry and Mayan stone relics to Italian travertine quarries. Materials are chosen for their sensory presence: cast aluminum, local travertine, bronze, ceramics, copper, and leather.
The studio relocated to San Miguel de Allende during the COVID-19 pandemic, a move that proved formative. Embedded in a city with deep craft traditions, OHLA Studio expanded into collectible furniture, launching the Alcocer collection in 2022. The Alcocer pieces were introduced at the Unno Gallery in Mexico City in February 2023, marking the studio's first foray into exhibition-scale furniture. The practice also extends to residential and hospitality projects: the Sin Nombre residence and gallery in San Miguel de Allende, estates in Napa, California, and boutique hotels in Mérida.
Collectible works by OHLA Studio on Monde Singulier include pieces from the Alcocer collection, each handcrafted in collaboration with artisans in San Miguel de Allende.
