The Antica Sconce belongs to the Alcocer collection by OHLA Studio, a series of copper lighting pieces rooted in pre-Hispanic metalsmithing traditions from Michoácán, Mexico.
Wall-mounted, the sconce projects a cylindrical stem topped by a shallow conical shade whose rim is hand-formed into a softly irregular, wave-like edge. That undulating rim is the formal signature of the Antica line, present in the same restrained variation across floor lamps, pendants, and table lamps. The warm glow from within the shade plays against the pale silver exterior of the metal.
The copper used in every Antica piece comes from recycled workshop scraps, recovered and worked by artisan goldsmiths applying techniques drawn from Tarascan metalwork traditions. Indigenous communities in the Michoácán region mined and worked copper for centuries before these skills found expression in the Alcocer collection. The finish departs from copper's traditional warm tone, treated to a brushed silver-grey that reads architectural rather than decorative.
As a wall-mounted light, the Antica Sconce suits corridors, dining rooms, or bedside positions. Within the Alcocer collection, it shares its craft story with the Antica Chandelier, the Antica Floor Lamp, and all other pieces in the series, made by local artisans in collaboration with OHLA Studio and launched in 2022 by Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull.

About
Ohla Studio
OHLA Studio is a multidisciplinary design studio founded in 2017 by Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull, based in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The Italian-American duo works across art direction, interior design, and landscape design, with a practice rooted in close collaboration with local artisans and centuries-old craft traditions.
Their work is guided by a single conviction: "We manifest age-old visions with contemporary possibilities." Each piece begins as a metaphor, a formal idea resolved through traditional techniques including stone carving, goldsmithing, and metal casting, with references ranging from Fabergé jewelry and Mayan stone relics to Italian travertine quarries. Materials are chosen for their sensory presence: cast aluminum, local travertine, bronze, ceramics, copper, and leather.
The studio relocated to San Miguel de Allende during the COVID-19 pandemic, a move that proved formative. Embedded in a city with deep craft traditions, OHLA Studio expanded into collectible furniture, launching the Alcocer collection in 2022. The Alcocer pieces were introduced at the Unno Gallery in Mexico City in February 2023, marking the studio's first foray into exhibition-scale furniture. The practice also extends to residential and hospitality projects: the Sin Nombre residence and gallery in San Miguel de Allende, estates in Napa, California, and boutique hotels in Mérida.
Collectible works by OHLA Studio on Monde Singulier include pieces from the Alcocer collection, each handcrafted in collaboration with artisans in San Miguel de Allende.
