The Antica Task Floor Lamp is part of the Alcocer collection by OHLA Studio, a series conceived around pre-Hispanic copper metalsmithing traditions still practised by artisan workshops in Michoácán, Mexico.
The lamp rises from a flat circular base on a slender cylindrical stem, all in a uniform brushed silver finish. The shallow conical shade, its rim hand-formed into a gently undulating edge, tips the composition with its single ornamental moment. That wavy rim is the Antica signature across the series, a formal echo of the irregular edges that characterise hand-worked copper.
Every piece in the Antica line is fabricated from recycled copper scraps, a practice that recovers what was once considered workshop waste and routes it through the same goldsmiths' skills that Tarascan artisans used centuries ago to produce ceremonial objects. The material is treated to achieve a pale silver tone, departing from copper's expected warmth.
Within the Alcocer collection, the Antica Task Floor Lamp functions as both a reading lamp and a craft object. Its proportions suit reading or working positions, while the material story it carries places it firmly in the collectible design tradition that defines OHLA Studio's first furniture and lighting body of work, launched by Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull in 2022.

About
Ohla Studio
OHLA Studio is a multidisciplinary design studio founded in 2017 by Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull, based in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The Italian-American duo works across art direction, interior design, and landscape design, with a practice rooted in close collaboration with local artisans and centuries-old craft traditions.
Their work is guided by a single conviction: "We manifest age-old visions with contemporary possibilities." Each piece begins as a metaphor, a formal idea resolved through traditional techniques including stone carving, goldsmithing, and metal casting, with references ranging from Fabergé jewelry and Mayan stone relics to Italian travertine quarries. Materials are chosen for their sensory presence: cast aluminum, local travertine, bronze, ceramics, copper, and leather.
The studio relocated to San Miguel de Allende during the COVID-19 pandemic, a move that proved formative. Embedded in a city with deep craft traditions, OHLA Studio expanded into collectible furniture, launching the Alcocer collection in 2022. The Alcocer pieces were introduced at the Unno Gallery in Mexico City in February 2023, marking the studio's first foray into exhibition-scale furniture. The practice also extends to residential and hospitality projects: the Sin Nombre residence and gallery in San Miguel de Allende, estates in Napa, California, and boutique hotels in Mérida.
Collectible works by OHLA Studio on Monde Singulier include pieces from the Alcocer collection, each handcrafted in collaboration with artisans in San Miguel de Allende.
