A century-long copper-working tradition in Michoácán, Mexico, anchors the Antica Single Pendant, part of the Alcocer collection by OHLA Studio.
A slender cylindrical stem drops from a circular canopy to a conical shade in a pale metallic finish. The shade's rim is hand-formed with an undulating, organic edge, the defining formal element of the Antica series across all its formats. Warm light pools beneath the cone, its heat contrasting with the cool silver of the surrounding metal.
The copper used throughout the Antica series is sourced from workshop scraps, the offcuts and residue of other manufacturing processes, recovered and refined using goldsmithing techniques inherited from Tarascan metalwork. Indigenous communities in the Michoácán region worked copper for centuries before these same skills found new expression in the Alcocer collection. The material is treated to a brushed silver tone, a deliberate departure from copper's traditional warmth.
As a single pendant, this piece suits intimate environments where scale matters: a bedside position, a reading corner, or a tight dining arrangement. The Antica Single Pendant and its siblings in the Alcocer collection represent the translation of San Miguel de Allende's artisan landscape into objects suited to the contemporary interior, a vision shaped by Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull since the collection's 2022 launch.

About
Ohla Studio
OHLA Studio is a multidisciplinary design studio founded in 2017 by Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull, based in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The Italian-American duo works across art direction, interior design, and landscape design, with a practice rooted in close collaboration with local artisans and centuries-old craft traditions.
Their work is guided by a single conviction: "We manifest age-old visions with contemporary possibilities." Each piece begins as a metaphor, a formal idea resolved through traditional techniques including stone carving, goldsmithing, and metal casting, with references ranging from Fabergé jewelry and Mayan stone relics to Italian travertine quarries. Materials are chosen for their sensory presence: cast aluminum, local travertine, bronze, ceramics, copper, and leather.
The studio relocated to San Miguel de Allende during the COVID-19 pandemic, a move that proved formative. Embedded in a city with deep craft traditions, OHLA Studio expanded into collectible furniture, launching the Alcocer collection in 2022. The Alcocer pieces were introduced at the Unno Gallery in Mexico City in February 2023, marking the studio's first foray into exhibition-scale furniture. The practice also extends to residential and hospitality projects: the Sin Nombre residence and gallery in San Miguel de Allende, estates in Napa, California, and boutique hotels in Mérida.
Collectible works by OHLA Studio on Monde Singulier include pieces from the Alcocer collection, each handcrafted in collaboration with artisans in San Miguel de Allende.
