The Lupita Dining Chair, part of the Alcocer collection by OHLA Studio, references the carved stone benches found in the courtyards of 19th-century colonial churches across central Mexico.
The backrest is the defining element: two horizontal bars cut with scalloped edges that recall those centuries-old stone seats. The form is spare, the proportions studied. A slender aluminium frame carries a padded seat with restrained upholstery, allowing the carved detail to read clearly against the clean lines.
Cast and polished by artisans in San Miguel de Allende, the chair is made from recycled aluminium processed through local workshops that have practised metal casting for generations. The material takes on a warm silvery tone, somewhere between raw stone and refined metal.
The Lupita chair sits within the Alcocer collection, OHLA Studio's first furniture body of work, launched in 2022 by Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull. It grounds the broader lighting and table pieces with a seating form that carries the same reading of Mexican craft heritage as the Antica series.

About
Ohla Studio
OHLA Studio is a multidisciplinary design studio founded in 2017 by Giulia Zink and Mat Trumbull, based in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The Italian-American duo works across art direction, interior design, and landscape design, with a practice rooted in close collaboration with local artisans and centuries-old craft traditions.
Their work is guided by a single conviction: "We manifest age-old visions with contemporary possibilities." Each piece begins as a metaphor, a formal idea resolved through traditional techniques including stone carving, goldsmithing, and metal casting, with references ranging from Fabergé jewelry and Mayan stone relics to Italian travertine quarries. Materials are chosen for their sensory presence: cast aluminum, local travertine, bronze, ceramics, copper, and leather.
The studio relocated to San Miguel de Allende during the COVID-19 pandemic, a move that proved formative. Embedded in a city with deep craft traditions, OHLA Studio expanded into collectible furniture, launching the Alcocer collection in 2022. The Alcocer pieces were introduced at the Unno Gallery in Mexico City in February 2023, marking the studio's first foray into exhibition-scale furniture. The practice also extends to residential and hospitality projects: the Sin Nombre residence and gallery in San Miguel de Allende, estates in Napa, California, and boutique hotels in Mérida.
Collectible works by OHLA Studio on Monde Singulier include pieces from the Alcocer collection, each handcrafted in collaboration with artisans in San Miguel de Allende.
