Monolith
Monolith is a New York design studio and gallery founded in 2023 by Marc Personick. The practice centers on one formal idea: brutalist furniture design that belongs in the home with the same authority it occupies in architecture. Every piece begins with geometry and mass, then submits to the logic of the material.
Stone and wood structure the Monolith palette. Travertine, volcanic and porous, arrives cream-colored and marked by natural incident: veining, pores, the record of its formation. White oak runs warmer and more immediate, offsetting the stone's geological weight. Together, the two materials define the studio's range: neither polished nor rough, but deliberately between.
Personick collaborates with architects and independent designers to expand the Monolith vocabulary. The M_001 Chair, a U-shaped travertine block resting on two differently formed legs, typifies the approach: geometry without ornament, material without apology. The M_007 Lounge Chair stacks travertine into an angled resting form, functional and sculptural in equal measure.
The Monolith Collection spans more than twenty objects: seating, tables, consoles, benches, and lighting, each available in stone or wood variants. Launched in 2023, the collection has attracted collectors and interior architects looking for geometric designer furniture grounded in material discipline rather than surface gesture.
Monolith pieces are available on Monde Singulier.
