The story

Functional and stylish, this shelving unit or bookcase was made from natural bamboo, with cane joints and luxe displays of brass inserts in Italy in the mid-1970s. It was designed by Giusto Puri Purini and Maurizio Mariani for Vivai Del Sud in 1976. It features nine shelves, with smoked glass separations. Vivai Del Sud was a renowned brand in Roma in the 1960s and 1970s, inspired by Gabriella Crespi, bringing the Mediterranean bamboo and rattan style to the Italian high society. A rare find, highly decorative, with a beautiful patina, found in very good vintage condition.

About Purini & Mariani

Giusto Puri Purini and Maurizio Mariani were Italian designers who worked together in the 1970s. They are known for furniture in bamboo and brass, including shelving produced by Vivai del Sud in 1976, and for mirrors. Their designs combine natural materials with a rigorous geometric structure. Collectors appreciate their pieces for their lightness and for the refined balance between exotic materials and Italian design discipline.
