The story
This is a unique round Belgian coffee table signed by Georges Mathias and produced in the late 1970s. The table features an amazing mosaic top made of paving polished brass pieces, surrounded by a brass strapping featuring a signed plate. It is set on a large round polished brass foot base. The round top with its eye-catching lines seems to float above the base. The table has been fully restored and repolished, and is found in a really great vintage condition. A highly decorative centrepiece that immediately catches attention.
About Georges Mathias
Belgian designer Georges Mathias worked in the 1970s, producing tables and lamps that treat brass as a decorative surface. His coffee and side tables are often clad in etched brass with abstract patterns, sometimes inlaid with agate or combined with lacquer, and many pieces are signed. Collectors look for signed examples with clear etching and a well-preserved brass finish, which gives his work its warm, graphic character.
