The story

This nice large chandelier was designed by Ettore Sottsass Jr for Stilnovo in Italy in the late 1970, model 19022. It consists of a large flat disc made of black painted aluminium, with 3 chromed diffuser shades integrated. This is a sophisticated yet minimalist design by Ettore Sottsass, very modern for its age. A rare find, fully restored, polished and rewired, and found in an amazing condition. Stilnovo mark engraved on the metal.

Literature : Stilnovo catalog Number 40, referenced page 77.

About Ettore Sottsass

Austrian-born Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) worked for decades as a consultant to Olivetti, where he created the Valentine typewriter (1969). His ceramics, furniture and glass pieces explored colour, ritual and symbolism, and in 1981 he founded the Memphis group in Milan. Collectors seek his early ceramics, his Ultrafragola mirror for Poltronova, and original Memphis pieces such as the Carlton bookcase, preferably from first production.
