About Dom Hans van der Laan

Dom Hans van der Laan (1904-1991) was a Dutch architect and Benedictine monk who developed the plastic number, a proportional system rooted in human perception of space. His major work is the Abbey of Sint Benedictusberg in Vaals, for which he designed buildings, furniture, textiles and liturgical objects. His furniture, in oak and other solid woods, is austere and exactly proportioned. Examples are rare and highly regarded by collectors of architect furniture.
