The story
This is a beautiful Belgium coffee table signed by Christian Krekels in 1979. The table features a beautiful decorative etched brass table top, with two agate stones inlaid, framed by a dark brown resin insert. It is set on a large wood base, covered with etched brass too. The rectangular top with vividly detailed etched lines seems to float above the base. The technique that she used is acid-etched brass, creating an unique geometric pattern, emphasising the expressiveness of the design and structuring the surface. It has been fully restored and repolished, and is found in a beautiful condition, with a very nice patina. A highly decorative centrepiece that immediately gets your attention.
About Christian Krekels
Christian Krekels is a Belgian artist and designer active from the 1970s. He is known for tables, lamps and objects in brass, their surfaces decorated with acid-etched patterns ranging from abstract motifs to landscapes and figurative scenes. Each piece is treated as a work of art, and many are signed. Collectors appreciate the craftsmanship of the etching and the warm, reflective finish of the metal, which gives his furniture a jewel-like quality.
