The story

The Going to the Moon Wood Sconce is a wall light by Rudy Guénaire, from the Croisière collection.

Two vertical wooden elements in stained hardwood flank a central spherical diffuser, their angular profiles cut precisely to cradle the globe without additional hardware. The structure reads as a stylized H on the wall, the uprights tapering to angular notches that grip the opaline sphere at its widest point. The deep brown tone of the wood makes the globe appear luminous by contrast even when unlit.

The diffuser is a sphere in milky opaline glass, which disperses light across a broad angle and shifts into warm amber tones when dimmed. The wooden frame is hand-finished with no surface decoration, the visual weight of the piece resting on the contrast between the dense wood and the diffused glow of the glass.

Going to the Moon exists in two versions within the Croisière collection: the chrome sconce, whose metal frame references science-fiction imagery and mid-century industrial design, and this wood version, which Rudy Guénaire conceived as its quieter counterpart. The wood shifts the piece toward a more intimate register, close in spirit to Japanese lighting traditions where material precedes ornament.

About Rudy Guénaire
Rudy Guénaire

Rudy Guénaire draws everything by hand. No 3D software, no renderings, just pencil on paper, from floor plans to furniture to napkin holders. It is the most legible fact about how he works, and it shapes what his spaces feel like: particular, considered, resistant to the generic.

He came to design sideways. A graduate of HEC, he co-founded PNY (Paris New York) in 2012 as a restaurateur, and it was through building out successive PNY locations across Paris, Lyon, Strasbourg, and Bordeaux that he discovered a talent for interior design. Working alongside architects CUT and Bernard Dubois sharpened that instinct further. In 2021, he formalized the practice as Studio Night Flight, a name taken from Saint-Exupéry.
