The story
The M_003 is a counter stool in travertine, designed by Marc Personick for the Monolith Collection. Its form is cylindrical: a flat top over a drum-shaped body, with three equally spaced rectangular cutouts carved into the lower half. The voids are structural as much as formal, lightening a mass that would otherwise appear impenetrable.
At counter height, the stool makes no concession to conventional ergonomic expectations. The seat is stone, flat and cool. The body holds its ground. This is furniture that prioritizes presence over comfort, a position consistent across the Monolith Collection.
Travertine here shows a creamy beige surface with natural dark striations running vertically through the cylindrical form. The carved openings reveal the same material in cross-section, so the stone's depth becomes part of the composition. Marc Personick's decision to leave the cutouts clean-edged rather than softened produces a hard geometric contrast within the otherwise monolithic shape.
The M_003 works at kitchen islands, bar counters, or anywhere a counter-height seat should carry significant visual weight. Available through Monde Singulier.
About Monolith
Monolith is a New York design studio and gallery founded in 2023 by Marc Personick. The practice centers on one formal idea: brutalist furniture design that belongs in the home with the same authority it occupies in architecture. Every piece begins with geometry and mass, then submits to the logic of the material.
Stone and wood structure the Monolith palette. Travertine, volcanic and porous, arrives cream-colored and marked by natural incident: veining, pores, the record of its formation. White oak runs warmer and more immediate, offsetting the stone's geological weight. Together, the two materials define the studio's range: neither polished nor rough, but deliberately between.

Every piece is packed and shipped under insurance, from the workshop to you. White glove delivery (unpacking, installation, packaging removal) is available on request. Delivery is not charged at checkout: we send you a quote within 24 business hours of your order. You have 5 days to accept and pay it (secure payment link or bank transfer), otherwise your order is cancelled and fully refunded.
