The story
The M_001 Chair in stone is a sculptural travertine armchair from the Monolith Collection, designed by Marc Personick.
The upper section is a U-shaped block, carved so that the interior forms the seat and the arms emerge from the same continuous mass. This monoblock sits on two legs that deliberately differ: one cylindrical, one rectangular. The asymmetry is introduced into a form that is otherwise entirely geometric, and it gives the piece its character: the visual tension between the uniform upper body and the mismatched legs.
Travertine runs throughout. The porous surface of the stone is left unpolished, exposing the characteristic open texture and the warm beige tones of the material. The chair is substantial in person, consistent with its material: this is furniture that occupies space with physical authority.
In the Monolith Collection, the M_001 is among Marc Personick's founding pieces, the first to demonstrate that stone seating can be fully resolved without compromise between sculptural object and functional chair.
About Monolith
Monolith is a New York design studio and gallery founded in 2023 by Marc Personick. The practice centers on one formal idea: brutalist furniture design that belongs in the home with the same authority it occupies in architecture. Every piece begins with geometry and mass, then submits to the logic of the material.
Stone and wood structure the Monolith palette. Travertine, volcanic and porous, arrives cream-colored and marked by natural incident: veining, pores, the record of its formation. White oak runs warmer and more immediate, offsetting the stone's geological weight. Together, the two materials define the studio's range: neither polished nor rough, but deliberately between.
Delivery
Every piece is packed and shipped under insurance, from the workshop to you. White glove delivery (unpacking, installation, packaging removal) is available on request. Delivery is not charged at checkout: we send you a quote within 24 business hours of your order. You have 5 days to accept and pay it (secure payment link or bank transfer), otherwise your order is cancelled and fully refunded.
