The story

This is a unique desk by Jacques Adnet made from French oakwood fully covered with original parchment, made in the early 1940’s. The desk has four drawers on each side, two being locked by key, all original and working. It also features a central drawer, and two moving extensions over the first drawer, fully covered with parchment. All the handles and two keys are made in silvered bronze. This desk is typical of the pre-war parchment work by Jacques Adnet, found in an amazing condition. Well documented a,d with a prestigious provenance. Displayed with a Baptistin Spade desk armchair in sycamore with straight back resting on saber legs at the back and tapered legs at the front, covered in brown velvet.

About Jacques Adnet

Jacques Adnet (1900-1984) was a French architect and designer who directed the Compagnie des Arts Français from 1928-1959. His modernism combined chrome, glass and mirror with fine woods and, most famously, furniture covered in stitched saddle leather, a style associated with his work with Hermès. He also designed lighting and interiors for public and private clients. Collectors look for leather clad pieces and lighting of the 1940s and 1950s.
