The story
This exceptional sofa, attributed to Isa Bergamo, and dating from the 1940s, is an outstanding example of post-war Art Deco Italian design. Its crescent-shaped seat rests on a low wooden walnut base, while its rounded, substantial arms and enveloping back create a curved, organic, and comfortable silhouette. The wooden structure, upholstered in high-quality mohair velvet, showcases refined finishes and a perfect balance of volumes. Fully restored, it retains the sculptural power of its forms, making it a rare, and highly decorative piece, emblematic of post-war Art Deco Italian furniture.
About ISA Bergamo
ISA Bergamo was an Italian furniture manufacturer based in the Bergamo area, active in the post-war decades. It produced seating, tables and cabinets in the modern Italian style of the 1950s and 1960s, combining wood, brass details and upholstery with a high level of craftsmanship. Its catalogue included designs by notable Italian designers of the period. Collectors look for labelled pieces and well-preserved original upholstery and finishes.
