About Axel Einar Hjorth

Axel Einar Hjorth (1888-1959) was a Swedish architect and furniture designer, chief designer at the Stockholm department store Nordiska Kompaniet from 1927-1938. He moved between refined Swedish Grace pieces and rustic modernism, best known through his solid pine series such as Utö, Sportstuga and Lovö, with strong, archaic silhouettes. His furniture is now highly sought after, and collectors look for original NK pieces with a good patina.
