The story
The Solid Leg Stool is a counter or bar height stool by Studio Paolo Ferrari, produced as part of Editions Paolo Ferrari.
The stool is fully upholstered in a cream textured fabric, likely bouclé, over a substantial U-shaped base. The backrest curves slightly, providing support without drawing attention to itself. The upholstery covers the entire structure: seat, legs, and sides, an approach that prioritizes material continuity over structural visibility.
A black textured metal footrest runs between the front legs, the only element in a contrasting material. It is a functional detail, handled with the same restraint as the rest of the piece.
The Solid Leg Stool follows a consistent logic in Editions Paolo Ferrari: forms that are legible and proportioned, upholstered in neutral tactile fabrics. Studio Paolo Ferrari developed this vocabulary through handcrafted furniture production in Canada, where each piece is assembled and finished by hand.
About Studio Paolo Ferrari
Studio Paolo Ferrari is a Toronto-based interior design practice founded in 2016 by Paolo Ferrari. Before establishing the studio, Ferrari served as Design Director at Yabu Pushelberg for six years, building technical depth in luxury hospitality projects across North America and Europe.
The studio's approach treats each commission as a contained world. Ferrari draws on cinema, art, and architecture as structural references, particularly the spatial storytelling of Kubrick and Lynch, the material rigor of Donald Judd, and the formal precision of Alvar Aalto. This framing informs the studio's defining move: pairing materials and aesthetics from different eras until the space holds genuine tension. The Secret Room at Five Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, with fresco-like walls against a futuristic bar volume, is one of the more cited examples. The Long Bar & Terrace at Raffles Boston won the AHEAD Americas Award in 2024.
