The story
The Mr. B Rectangle Coffee Table is a low-slung piece by Studio Paolo Ferrari, part of the Mr. B series within Editions Paolo Ferrari.
The table is finished in a deep dark red lacquer, applied over wood and brought to a high gloss. The color sits between burgundy and cordovan, a saturated red that reads as both formal and unsettling. The tabletop carries a thick profile with gently rounded edges; the mass of it is balanced by block-like legs that connect through a central stretcher.
There is nothing decorative about the Mr. B Rectangle Coffee Table. The form is declarative: a thick slab over solid architecture. The lacquer is the statement, and the proportions hold it.
The Mr. B series from Editions Paolo Ferrari includes multiple lacquered pieces in round and rectangular formats, among them the Mr. B Round Coffee Table and the Mr. B Round Side Table. Their shared vocabulary is solidity and saturation, objects that impose without needing to explain themselves.
About Studio Paolo Ferrari
Studio Paolo Ferrari is a Toronto-based interior design practice founded in 2016 by Paolo Ferrari. Before establishing the studio, Ferrari served as Design Director at Yabu Pushelberg for six years, building technical depth in luxury hospitality projects across North America and Europe.
The studio's approach treats each commission as a contained world. Ferrari draws on cinema, art, and architecture as structural references, particularly the spatial storytelling of Kubrick and Lynch, the material rigor of Donald Judd, and the formal precision of Alvar Aalto. This framing informs the studio's defining move: pairing materials and aesthetics from different eras until the space holds genuine tension. The Secret Room at Five Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, with fresco-like walls against a futuristic bar volume, is one of the more cited examples. The Long Bar & Terrace at Raffles Boston won the AHEAD Americas Award in 2024.
