The story
The Ame Lounge is a compact armchair by Studio Paolo Ferrari, part of the Editions Paolo Ferrari collection.
Its form is sculptural and enveloping. Thick, curving arms flow continuously into the backrest, producing a seamless rounded silhouette without hard corners or visible transitions. The result is a closed, self-sufficient shape: the chair reads as an object before it reads as seating. The proportions are deliberately generous for the footprint, with the seat set low and the arms rising high enough to shelter.
The upholstery is a textured off-white textile that covers every surface uniformly. This tonal consistency reinforces the sculptural reading, drawing attention to form rather than material. The contrast arrives from below: four slender black metal legs, angled slightly outward, provide the base without interrupting the soft geometry above.
Within Editions Paolo Ferrari, the Ame Lounge belongs to the studio's seating vocabulary alongside the Cloud Sofa and Cloud Lounge, pieces that share a preference for rounded, continuous forms. Studio Paolo Ferrari applies the same logic at every scale, from hospitality spaces to individual chairs.
About Studio Paolo Ferrari
Studio Paolo Ferrari is a Toronto-based interior design practice founded in 2016 by Paolo Ferrari. Before establishing the studio, Ferrari served as Design Director at Yabu Pushelberg for six years, building technical depth in luxury hospitality projects across North America and Europe.
The studio's approach treats each commission as a contained world. Ferrari draws on cinema, art, and architecture as structural references, particularly the spatial storytelling of Kubrick and Lynch, the material rigor of Donald Judd, and the formal precision of Alvar Aalto. This framing informs the studio's defining move: pairing materials and aesthetics from different eras until the space holds genuine tension. The Secret Room at Five Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, with fresco-like walls against a futuristic bar volume, is one of the more cited examples. The Long Bar & Terrace at Raffles Boston won the AHEAD Americas Award in 2024.
