The story
The ItooRaba Sofa sits low and wide. Its broad armrests extend well beyond the seat plane, horizontal and architectural, as much frame as rest. Upholstered in charcoal grey textile with two loose back cushions, the piece was photographed alongside a Mesopotamian stone relief and an arched alcove: not incidental staging but a signal about ancestry.
The name ItooRaba, from the Chaldean "itota rabtha," describes the large seatings reserved for honoured guests: the place of welcome in its most considered form. Burned, brushed and black-oiled solid pine.
A foundational piece for the ItooRaba modular configuration, or for any room that can hold its presence.
About Sizar Alexis
Sizar Alexis is a Swedish-Iraqi designer based in Eskilstuna, working at the intersection of Scandinavian brutalist design and ancient Mesopotamian heritage.
Before founding his studio in 2019, Alexis spent six years as a design engineer at Volvo, then studied fine arts at Beckmans College of Design. That formation, between industrial engineering and fine arts, shapes his practice throughout. He works with blackened steel, pine wood, and leather, materials both abundant in the Swedish landscape and tied to Eskilstuna's historic steel industry. Components for his pieces are produced in his father's metal tool factory, then hand-assembled in his own studio.
