The story
The ItooRaba Cabinet works through contrast: a solid, monolithic base in burned pine beneath an upper section where open vertical panels articulate the interior, revealing internal shelves through negative space. The wood grain reads as texture against texture, dark grain against dark shadow. Tall and slender in burned, brushed and black-oiled solid pine, it holds the proportion of a column.
Part of the ItooRaba family, whose name in Chaldean describes the large seatings of welcome and honour, the cabinet brings that considered arrangement to storage: objects held deliberately, each in its place.
A sculptural storage form that occupies a wall without overwhelming it.
About Sizar Alexis
Sizar Alexis is a Swedish-Iraqi designer based in Eskilstuna, working at the intersection of Scandinavian brutalist design and ancient Mesopotamian heritage.
Before founding his studio in 2019, Alexis spent six years as a design engineer at Volvo, then studied fine arts at Beckmans College of Design. That formation, between industrial engineering and fine arts, shapes his practice throughout. He works with blackened steel, pine wood, and leather, materials both abundant in the Swedish landscape and tied to Eskilstuna's historic steel industry. Components for his pieces are produced in his father's metal tool factory, then hand-assembled in his own studio.
