The story

Porto Chair No1 is the first in a series of eight carved walnut chairs, each distinguished by a singular graphic backrest. On this model, three circular cutouts run in a vertical column through the tall panel, creating a rhythm of solid mass and open air that reads differently from every angle. The base continues the formal logic: two broad, arched legs, each shaped by a large oval cutout, form a sculptural cradle that grounds the seat without overpowering the backrest above it.

The chair is hand carved in solid walnut by skilled artisans in Northern Portugal. The dense grain of the wood becomes part of the composition during the carving process, surfacing as contrasting marks across the seat, legs, and backrest. Walnut's warm, dark tone deepens with use and light over time.

Porto Chair No1 is part of the Project 213A Collection, the debut furniture range of Project 213A, a design house founded in 2021 by Jurgita Dileviciute, Theresa Marx, and Clement Deboeuf. The collection takes its names from Portuguese cities and coastal areas as a direct reference to the regional artisan tradition that shapes every piece in the line. Bespoke dimensions are available upon request.

About Project 213A
Project 213A

Project 213A is a Portuguese design house founded in 2021 by Jurgita Dileviciute, Theresa Marx, and Clement Deboeuf. The name comes from a London address where each founder lived at separate points during their studies, a shared geography that preceded their professional collaboration.

The idea for the studio took shape during the 2020 lockdown, when the three founders combined their professional backgrounds to build something together. Project 213A has operated from in-house ceramic and wood workshops in Northern Portugal since its launch, working alongside skilled local artisans whose traditional craftsmanship shapes every piece in the catalog.
