The story
The Section Side Table is a compact two-tiered storage unit in light grey lacquered material, with shallow upper compartments and tall vertical lower sections, designed by Paul Coenen for the Section collection.
The piece divides into two clearly readable registers. The upper tier carries two shallow compartments flanking a slightly deeper central one. The lower tier opens into three tall vertical sections. All interior corners are softly rounded, easing the strict geometry of the form without undermining it. The overall silhouette is upright and contained.
The lacquered light grey surface runs consistently across both tiers and all interior faces. The soft rounding of the corners adds a precision detail that distinguishes this piece from pure industrial production. Nothing in the form reads as ornamental, but the radius on the corners carries a considered hand.
The Section Side Table is available at Monde Singulier, part of Paul Coenen's Section collection in which each object develops from a clear material and process logic. The two-tiered format is the most functionally stratified piece in the series.
About Paul Coenen

Paul Coenen (b. 1992) is a designer based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, whose work embodies an experimental, hands-on approach rooted in a deep fascination with materials and the interplay between modern and traditional manufacturing techniques.
With each project, Coenen works to unearth the possibilities and limitations of his chosen materials, letting them guide and shape the outcome. The final form of each object is a direct consequence of the materials used and the techniques applied, not of pre-conceived design intentions. This gives his pieces a material authenticity that places them firmly within the Dutch experimental design tradition, where Eindhoven's culture has long nurtured makers who put investigation before convention.
