The story
The Section Bench is a low-slung seat formed by two U-shaped concrete-like sections joined at the centre, designed by Paul Coenen for the Section collection.\n\nThe bench reads as a single monolithic block from a distance. Up close, a subtle seam at the midpoint reveals the modular logic behind the form: two mirrored halves that become a cohesive object only when placed together. The elongated, horizontal proportions keep the profile close to the ground, reinforcing the sense of weight and stillness.\n\nThe material is cast in a matte light grey with a texture that recalls poured concrete, though the surface retains the precision of an industrial process. No decorative edge treatment, no applied colour. The grey is the material; the material is the bench.\n\nPart of the Section collection available at Monde Singulier, the bench reflects Coenen's core method: form arrives through material logic, not sketched concept. Its low, horizontal presence holds a room without competing with what is already there.
About Paul Coenen

Paul Coenen (b. 1992) is a designer based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, whose work embodies an experimental, hands-on approach rooted in a deep fascination with materials and the interplay between modern and traditional manufacturing techniques.
With each project, Coenen works to unearth the possibilities and limitations of his chosen materials, letting them guide and shape the outcome. The final form of each object is a direct consequence of the materials used and the techniques applied, not of pre-conceived design intentions. This gives his pieces a material authenticity that places them firmly within the Dutch experimental design tradition, where Eindhoven's culture has long nurtured makers who put investigation before convention.
