The story
The Thing 4 Ottoman Square is an upholstered piece from the Konekt Collection by Helena and Natasha Sultan, sharing the same material language as the Rectangle format but in a compact square proportion.
The seat cushion is covered in golden yellow velvet, bright against the curved brushed bronze band that encircles the form at mid-height. That metallic band has a gentle curvature that avoids hard corners, softening what would otherwise be a more architectural silhouette. Beneath the band, a dense fringe of dark brown horsehair falls to the floor, giving the piece its distinctive textured base.
The velvet upholstery is hand-stitched and fitted over the steel frame. The surrounding band is finished in antique brushed bronze. The horsehair fringe at the base is a recurring detail across the Thing 4 series within the Konekt Collection, connecting each format through a shared material logic.
Made by hand in Pennsylvania.
About Konekt
Konekt is a sculptural furniture and lighting studio based in Pennsylvania, led by mother-daughter team Helena and Natasha Sultan. Their practice starts from material: its physical properties, its craft histories, and what happens when unexpected materials are brought together with traditional ones.
Helena and Natasha produce handcrafted furniture and lighting that pairs contrasting qualities in a single object. Strength and fragility, solidity and fluidity, refinement and play: these are not tensions the work resolves, but tensions the work is made of. Each piece carries that balance in its surface, its form, and its finish.
