The story
The Perception Chair is an angular armchair from Known Work Studio’s debut Perceptions Collection. Its design holds a central tension: a rigid burl wood veneer shell surrounds a curved interior upholstered in warm brown fabric.
The geometry is precise. Four straight legs support a squared frame with visible mass. At the seat and backrest, the structure curves inward to meet the body, softening what is otherwise angular from every exterior vantage. The burl wood veneer, with its swirling grain, shifts character under different light conditions.
The interior is a single continuous piece of warm brown fabric. Against the mineral density of burl wood, this upholstery creates the object’s organizing contrast: soft where the wood is hard, curved where the frame is straight.
Known Work Studio takes an anthropological approach to each collection. Founded in New York City by Danu Kennedy and Jeremy Levitt, partners at the award-winning firm Parts and Labor Design, the studio works hands-on with production. Creative Director Alex Dilena rounds out the trio. Objects are made to be examined, used over time, and owned. About Known Work Studio
**Known Work Studio** was founded in New York by Danu Kennedy and Jeremy Levitt, partners at Parts and Labor Design, the award-winning NYC-based firm. The studio began from a shared commitment: to make objects with material integrity and craft that reads in the hand, not just the eye.
Creative Director Alex Dilena joined Kennedy and Levitt at the outset, shaping Known Work's collaborative process from the beginning. The three work at close range with each piece, treating design as investigation rather than output.
Delivery
Every piece is packed and shipped under insurance, from the workshop to you. White glove delivery (unpacking, installation, packaging removal) is available on request. Delivery is not charged at checkout: we send you a quote within 24 business hours of your order. You have 5 days to accept and pay it (secure payment link or bank transfer), otherwise your order is cancelled and fully refunded.
