The story
The Steam Mirror is a wall mirror by Heim+Viladrich, presented at Private Choice 2024.
The piece is vertically oriented and rectangular, crafted from a material that reads as light grey stone or concrete. A deep recessed opening in the upper section frames the mirror itself, while a narrow horizontal shelf below supports four cylindrical elements of darker tone. The scale is architectural.
Surface and structure are treated as a single object. The monochromatic grey palette connects the frame, shelf, and cylindrical details without hierarchy. The concrete finish gives the piece a density that sits closer to sculpture than to functional mirror design.
Part of the Heim+Viladrich Collection, the Steam Mirror extends the studio's investigation of structural transparency to the wall plane. It was among the works shown by Heim+Viladrich at Private Choice 2024.
About Heim+Viladrich
Heim+Viladrich is a design studio founded in 2022 by Lauriane Heim and Johan Viladrich, based in Montpellier, France. Their approach is deeply rooted in context analysis, relying on meticulous research in the use of local materials and in the mastery of employed techniques. Through their projects, the studio has developed a coherent visual language, with rigorous attention running from overall composition down to individual details.
The studio's signature is mono-material construction with structural transparency: visible joints, raw aluminum, galvanized steel. These choices reflect an "economy of gesture," harmonizing material and process to produce work that is understated and precisely made. The duo maintains a direct relationship with production, working to leave materials as untouched as possible and reusing them across projects.

Every piece is packed and shipped under insurance, from the workshop to you. White glove delivery (unpacking, installation, packaging removal) is available on request.
