The story
The Demoiselle is a pendant light by Elsa Foulon, part of the Elsa Foulon Collection.
A wide pleated off-white textile shade forms an inverted disk, generous in diameter, shallow in depth, with fine pleating radiating outward from a central point. Below the shade, a tapered wooden cone in warm light brown descends to a fine metallic tip, its form quietly mirroring the geometry of the shade above. The slender suspension rod matches the wood tone, unifying the upper and lower elements into a cohesive silhouette.
The textile introduces softness and movement where Foulon's other pieces rely on fired clay. The pleating filters the light into a diffuse, even glow that spreads across the full diameter of the shade.
Within the Elsa Foulon Collection, Demoiselle marks a material shift, from ceramic to fabric and wood, while remaining consistent in its formal approach: simple volumes, natural materials, a considered relationship between the object and its light.
About Elsa Foulon

Elsa Foulon came to ceramics through a different door. The daughter of an antique dealer and later a dealer in 20th-century decorative arts herself, she spent years building a visual archive of objects made with conviction. That accumulation now shapes her approach: ceramic lighting fixtures conceived as sculpture, forms simultaneously free and precise, their sensibility drawn from both artistic instinct and hard-won technique.
The medium resisted the scale she wanted. Large-format ceramic work demands a kind of problem-solving that goes beyond craft, so she developed her own plate technique and proprietary materials, achieving generous volumes without sacrificing the structural lightness her organic forms require. The Antigone series, whose pendant and wall versions seem to float against any surface, is where this technical resolution becomes most visible.
