The Coexist Bench pairs two freestanding travertine blocks with a slender wood beam and a plush textile cushion, forming a low seat that holds its own as much through material contrast as through composition.
The design by Arielle Assouline-Lichten reads as an exercise in deliberate restraint. Two rectangular stone supports, left raw enough to show the travertine's porous surface, carry a pale wood member across the span. The cushion above in a neutral beige cloth completes the trio without overwhelming either element beneath it. Light grazes the stone and throws defined shadows that shift through the day, making the piece sensitive to its environment.
Travertine, warm-toned wood, and soft textile each bring a different weight and tactility. The stone grounds the piece; the wood introduces warmth; the cushion invites use. None competes for attention, and that balance is what makes the Coexist Bench distinctive among designer travertine benches.
The bench is part of the Coexist collection, Slash Objects' exploration of coexistence between geological time and human craft. Each piece is made to order by specialist artisans, ensuring the material selections and proportions remain true to Arielle Assouline-Lichten's original intent. Available through Monde Singulier.

About
Slash Objects
Arielle Assouline-Lichten is an artist, architect, and multidisciplinary designer whose work explores materiality, ephemerality, and the pursuit of form. Her approach to furniture design is rooted in elevating overlooked source materials to create bespoke elegance. She is the founder of Slash Objects, a studio based in New York and Paris, that works at the tension between the natural world and man-made processes.
Arielle has studied and worked in Copenhagen and Tokyo, shaping her minimal and intentional aesthetic. Her signature collection Coexist plays with balance and harmony, probing the intersection between materials. Her collection Unbroken explores transience, celebrates imperfection, and questions the ephemeral nature of materials over time.
Guided by an architectural ethos, every piece is a study in balance and structure, built to answer equally to function and form. Each piece is made to order by world-class artisans, creating collectible furniture that roots together earth, hand, mind and body. Her work is available on Monde Singulier.
