The Beluga Sofa is built from two elongated cushioned forms, each upholstered in cream fabric with softened, rounded edges. The upper volume rests centrally on the lower, creating a layered silhouette that reads as deliberate and compact.
The defining feature is a horizontal gold-toned metallic band across the front of the lower form. It runs the full width of the piece without interruption, its hard finish set against the soft textile above. This contrast, between the weight of metal and the lightness of upholstered fabric, is the sofa's central argument.
Alexander Díaz Andersson designed the ATRA 2100 collection from his Mexico City studio. Trained in industrial design, he works with material pairing as a formal language. The gold metallic accent frames the cream upholstered volume above it rather than decorating it. The Beluga Sofa holds both principles in one object: a luxury cream sofa where softness and precision occupy equal territory.
Part of the ATRA 2100 collection by Alexander Díaz Andersson. Winner of Best In Show, Design Miami 2021.
