The Relic Petite is Sierra Kanistanaux's most compact handbuilt vessel: a stout grey-brown ceramic form with a narrow opening, its two sides carrying vertical columns of spiral shell reliefs from base to rim. The scale is contained; the material presence is not. Part of the ongoing Relic series, which gathers coastal shells and ancient-object forms into ceramics that hold the accumulated weight of found material.

About
Sierra Kanistanaux
Sierra Kanistanaux is a self-taught ceramic artist based in San Francisco. Each piece she creates tells a unique story that contributes to a larger narrative, evoking nature, mythology, ritual and eternal symbols that transcend time and culture. Through texture, pattern, and form, she aims to awaken the senses and elevate our experience of the places we inhabit. Her work draws on the places she has called home, from the architectural elements of Europe and the Mediterranean to the natural forms of Montana and Northern California. The Relic series, her most active body of work, gathers shells, coastal fragments and ancient-object forms into pieces that hold the weight of another time.
