The Layered Back Dining Chair is a dining seat by Studio Paolo Ferrari, part of the Editions Paolo Ferrari collection.
The form is compact and balanced. A U-shaped backrest, softly upholstered, extends forward to form shallow armrests, creating a single integrated shell that wraps the sitter without enclosing them. The rounded seat and the gentle curve of the back share the same light beige textile, maintaining visual continuity throughout.
Four slender cylindrical wooden legs in a pale tone support the piece. Their verticality provides a counterpoint to the softer upholstered shell above. No hardware is visible; the detailing is resolved entirely in material and proportion.
The Layered Back Dining Chair reflects Editions Paolo Ferrari's approach to dining seating: forms that draw from modernist proportion while using textile and wood to soften the geometry. Studio Paolo Ferrari brings the same attention to material relationships here as in its hospitality interiors.

About
Studio Paolo Ferrari
Studio Paolo Ferrari is a Toronto-based interior design practice founded in 2016 by Paolo Ferrari. Before establishing the studio, Ferrari served as Design Director at Yabu Pushelberg for six years, building technical depth in luxury hospitality projects across North America and Europe.
The studio's approach treats each commission as a contained world. Ferrari draws on cinema, art, and architecture as structural references, particularly the spatial storytelling of Kubrick and Lynch, the material rigor of Donald Judd, and the formal precision of Alvar Aalto. This framing informs the studio's defining move: pairing materials and aesthetics from different eras until the space holds genuine tension. The Secret Room at Five Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, with fresco-like walls against a futuristic bar volume, is one of the more cited examples. The Long Bar & Terrace at Raffles Boston won the AHEAD Americas Award in 2024.
Active globally, the studio works in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, with clients including Raffles, Four Seasons, Sanlorenzo Yachts, Red Sea Global, Auberge Resorts, 1 Hotels, Holt Renfrew, and Poltrona Frau. Boutique Design named Studio Paolo Ferrari its 2025 Designer of the Year.
Alongside the studio, Ferrari founded Editions Paolo Ferrari in 2016, a handcrafted furniture collection produced in Canada. Each edition is a conceptually unified body of objects at the junction of sculpture and function. Pieces from the Editions Paolo Ferrari collection are available on Monde Singulier.
