La Mante Religieuse is a sculptural floor lamp produced exclusively for Monde Singulier, the result of a collaboration between Rispal, the historic French lighting house, and sculptor Lucas Castex.
The lamp takes its name from the praying mantis: a multi-legged, biomorphic base in dark hand-sculpted wood supports a pleated, spheroid shade in off-white. The form is slender and organic, the charcoal-stained wood contrasting with the diffused warmth of the light. Where most floor lamps resolve into geometry, this one reads as a figure.
Castex carved the base by hand, selecting the wood variety, grain, and depth of stain in close collaboration with Rispal and Monde Singulier. The textured surface retains the marks of the sculptor's tools. Each lamp is singular.
This handcrafted wood floor lamp is an exclusive edition available only through Monde Singulier, representing Rispal's practice of reinterpreting its mid-century archive through the work of living artists.

About
Rispal x Lucas Castex
Rispal x Lucas Castex brings together a historic French lighting brand and a sculptor whose practice centers on the grain and texture of wood. The pairing produced an exclusive edition of the Mante Religieuse floor lamp, one of the most recognizable silhouettes in 20th-century French lighting design.
Rispal was founded in Paris in the early 20th century, producing decorative lighting that placed it within the canon of French modernist design. The brand's most iconic piece, the Mante Religieuse, named for its articulated stem and insect-form shade, became a collector's reference. Douglas Mont, a lighting designer with more than twenty years of experience, undertook the revival of the Rispal brand, working from original drawings and production methods to preserve what made the originals worth reviving.
Lucas Castex is a French sculptor and craftsman who works wood by hand, piece by piece. His practice is built around the specific character of each timber: knots, fissures, the contrast between heartwood and sapwood. No two of his surfaces are the same. Rather than imposing a predetermined form, Castex lets the material guide the result.
For Monde Singulier, the two joined to create an exclusive edition of the Mante Religieuse floor lamp. Castex redesigned the lamp base in hand-sculpted wood, giving a historic silhouette a material individuality it had never carried. The piece sits at the intersection of French artisan lighting heritage and contemporary wood sculpture: collectible design in the full sense.
The Mante Religieuse floor lamp by Rispal x Lucas Castex is available exclusively on Monde Singulier.
