RELIC

Sierra Kanistanaux builds each ceramic piece by hand at her San Francisco studio, using glaze, texture, and relief to work across two distinct registers: the geological and the elemental. The result is a collection of objects that carry more weight than their surfaces suggest.

The Relic series is the collection's dominant pole, built around fossil coil forms, ammonite spirals that flank each vessel like columns retrieved from sediment. The palette runs from pale cream, dense and architectural, to dark volcanic stoneware surfaced with mineral accretions and crater-like pitting. Kanistanaux describes the series as objects unearthed rather than made, each colorway a distinct reading of the same formal grammar.
