Mickael Koska x Monde Singulier

Mickael Koska

Mickaël Koska is inspired by his environment, and redraws from his gaze observed in his daily life and in nature, in order to create timeless and singular objects. As an autodidact who is passionate about design, he discovers his own fields of exploration by diverting furniture and materials to make sculptures or unique objects. He perfected his talents as a designer at the Ecole Boulle in Paris and then created his studio in Marseille, where he currently lives. Simplify shapes, underline them, have fun and create durable objects in order to enhance the know-how of French manufacturers. Design must be at the service of the collective conscience for a "better consumption" with the creation of ethical objects, produced by crafts workshops in France. Objects that we keep and that go through time.

Approach, design philosophy: Ethical objects produced by crafts workshops

“Design must be at the service of the collective conscience for a ‘better consumption’ with the creation of ethical objects, produced by crafts workshops in France.”. “We conceive, imagine and keep simple lines. We focus on the essential, revealing the shape through detail that makes the design unique and timeless.”

Style: Instinctive and free

Koska’s style is instinctive and free, marked by simplicity and originality. His furniture combines raw and refined materials, often drawing from childhood memories or daily observations, resulting in pieces that blend function and emotion.

Main inspirations: Raw material

“I never seek inspiration in new trends, it’s too easy and disturbing at the same time. I prefer to think about objects, colors, and forms that marked my mind.”. “The raw material, the mineral inspires me (rock, wood, fashion, architecture, art in general).” (Source : AventureDeco)

Identity and aesthetics: Scuptural forms, bold colors and the reuse of materials

The identity and aesthetics of Mickaël Koska are characterized by sculptural forms, bold colors, and the reuse of materials. His designs mix organic shapes with minimalist lines, creating pieces that are both artistic and functional. They stand out for their poetic resonance and ability to personalize any space.

Values: Ethical production

The studio values ethical production, French craftsmanship, and the reuse of materials. Koska is committed to creating sustainable, emotional objects that preserve artisanal knowledge. His work is deeply rooted in environmental consciousness and local sourcing.

Creative process: Instinct, spontaneity, and hands-on experimentation

The studio’s creative process is based on instinct, spontaneity, and hands-on experimentation. Koska blends recovered pieces and diverse materials, shaping them into unique creations. His daily routine includes both design and fabrication, ensuring each piece remains connected to his vision.

Production and materials

Materials used include wood, concrete, pyrex, indigo dye, and recycled components. “La matière brute, le minéral m’inspire (la roche, le bois…)”

Production methods

Koska often uses traditional craftsmanship combined with contemporary materials. His pieces are made in collaboration with local artisans and involve handcrafting, dyeing (e.g., indigo baths), and material recovery.
