The story

Originally intended for a bedroom, this 1950s chest of drawers imparts a cosy, glowing mood to a space. The warm sycamore maple remains looking healthy and smooth seventy years later. Solid brass handles adorn the front of the commode. Designed by French art deco designer Rene Prou, the piece feels delightfully modern for the period and charmingly vintage now. The piece has been fully refinished, and is in great vintage condition.

About René Prou

French decorator René Prou (1889-1947) was a significant figure of Art Deco, known for furniture in wrought iron, fine woods and lacquer. He designed interiors for ocean liners and for the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits, as well as for private clients and public buildings. His style combines geometric structure with elegant restraint. Collectors look for documented pieces, particularly metal furniture and cabinets from the 1920s and 1930s.
