The story
This is a unique desk, called the “working table” by Bodil Kjaer when she designed it in 1959. Produced by E. Pedersen & Søn in Denmark, this particular piece was made on request in the early 1960s with an adjusted leather top, in Brazilian Rosewood with chromed steel feet. This freestanding piece is probably the most iconic Mid-Century desk ever designed, appearing in three James Bond movies (From Russia with Love - 1963 ; You only Live Twice - 1967 ; On Her Majesty's Secret Service - 1969), and more recently in Kingsman - 2014. Four drawers pull out smoothly for ample storage space, with one drawer can be locked by key, while the wide, spacious top allows for plenty of room for writing, drawing, and working in style. This very rare architectural piece has been fully restored with traditional stamp varnishing method, and is in mint condition, waiting for its new home.
About Bodil Kjær
Danish architect and designer Bodil Kjær (born 1932) created furniture of calm, architectural clarity for offices and interiors. Her Office Desk of 1959, produced by E. Pedersen & Søn in rosewood or oak with a slender steel frame, became a quiet emblem of Scandinavian modernism and appeared in several James Bond films. Collectors prize original examples from the first production, particularly in Brazilian rosewood, with the frame and drawer units in good order.
